I'm on a mission to learn wave kitesurfing.

The peculiar thing about this new passion of mine is that the more I try wave kitesurfing, the more I feel like I don't understand it. Last winter I was determined to find an immersive wave kitesurfing experience on a left breaking wave, so I literally typed into Google "left breaking wave kitesurfing'. Wild Kite, Peru popped into view and immediately brought me into their amazing world of kitesurfing wave safaris.

A little bit about me.

I'm a middle-aged and mediocre (at best) strapless kitesurfer who is completely in love with wave kitesurfing. Even though I really only get to try wave kitesurfing once a year, I'm committed to it and simply driven by it. Despite my passion, I felt like I was struggling to put together all the skills necessary to experience a complete wave sailing session.

Wild Kite, Peru solved this problem.

Wild Kite Peru offers a several types training and coaching options through their facilities and kite safaris. The distinction for the company was their attitude and their delivery.

Even though I was the student, I never felt like one at any point during our adventures. Axel and Valentin always treated me like a knowledgeable kitesurfer while spending an incredible amount of time helping me develop a clear understanding of wave sailing. Every day felt like I was sailing with my peers back home but they weaved in so much learning that progress in my kitesurfing was inevitable.

My last kite safari proved to be the defining moment of the whole trip.

After getting onto the water, I could feel myself approaching the shore break with some of the wisdom imparted on me from Valentin and Axel. This time I left the beach feeing self-aware, relaxed and confident.

Working towards the top of the point break, I sailed into position and experienced that euphoric roller coaster drop that comes from riding a good wave. I worked down the line with the wave the best that I could until I found my exit, gybed back out to sea and headed back into the line up.

It was my first true wave lap with a proper ride and the euphoria that comes with it. I can still see every little detail of the wave breaking behind me and for the first time ever, I felt like a wave sailor.

Amazing and thank you Wild Kite Peru.
